Acid reflux or bloating
is one of the most common health issues that everyone is facing nowadays. The
causes of bloating or acid reflux can be anything. But before we dig into that,
we need to know about what bloating or acid reflux refers to.
Whenyour swallow food
it travels starting from the mouth the esophagus to the stomach. Where a solid
acid called hydrochloric acid helps separate food. The stomach has an
exceptional protective lining that ensures against this acid, however the
esophagus does not.
Acid reflux is basically
the backflow of stomach acid from the stomach into the esophagus. Without a
protective lining, acid can bother the esophagus. This disturbance is the agony
we call indigestion. This is only one of the numerous acid reflux symptoms.
There are various causes of Acid reflux
or bloating. Here are a few of those –
1. Inflammation
Inflammation
is one among the most common reasons for acid reflux and bloating. Many studies
have proved that high level of inflammation is basically linked to the
development of GERD or acid reflux. This is because, too much of inflammation
can cause tissue damage and dysfunction in your esophagus and in the end; you
suffer from acid reflux symptoms.
2. Hiatal Hernia
Another
cause of GERD or acid reflux is nothing but the Hiatal Hernia. The diaphragm in
your body basically helps your stomach to separate from the chest. A hiatal
hernia occurs when the upper part of your stomach obtrudes above the diaphragm.
This allows the acid to escape and thus, you suffer from acid reflux symptoms.
3. Large meals
One
of the biggest reasons for acid reflux is nothing but eating large meals;
especially during the night. When you eat too much at night, your body doesn’t
get enough energy to digest the food as you only sleep at night and do not do
any other physical activities. However, during the day, although your body can
digest the food easily, you still should not eat too much as it can lead to
upset stomach. A full stomach can put a lot of pressure on your diaphragm which
causes acids to travel upward.
4. Obesity
Being
overweight or obese can also be a reason for acid reflux symptoms. There are
three ways on how obesity or overweight leads to acid reflux –
·
If you have too much of stomach fats,
that can cause increased abdominal pressure. This can turn out to be very
harmful for your health and cause acid reflux symptoms.
·
If you are overweight or obese, you have
greater risks of getting hiatal hernia than any others.
·
As weight increases, the level of
estrogen in both men and women increases as well. An increased estrogen level
can lead to acid reflux.
5. Stress and Anxiety
If
you have been stressed or feeling anxious a lot lately, then it could lead to
acid reflux symptoms. Too much of stress can actually cause an increase in the
acid production in your stomach. Not only just acid reflux, stress and anxiety
can be a reason for many other health issues.
