A quick to GERD and acid reflux

If you are experiencing frequent acid reflux, it is called GERD or gastrointestinal esophageal reflux disease. In the nutshell, it is a recurrence of acid reflux in the long term.

If the stomach acids are moved up frequently into the esophagus, it may damage the tissues. It is due to the dysfunctional valve located at the bottom of your esophagus and on top of the stomach. Therefore, it provides a clear definition of what is GERD

Many people suffering from sour taste in the mouth after intake of a heavy meal or sleeping immediately after intake of a meal. The lower esophageal sphincter, a small valve, is located at the entrance of your stomach. It should get closed immediately after the passage food from your mouth into the stomach. If the valve doesn’t close or is always in open condition, then stomach acid keeps on moving to the esophagus. As a result, you will suffer from heartburn or burning sensation. The movement of acids from the stomach to the esophagus is called acid reflux.


You are advised to consume small meals five or six times a day to promote digestion and prevent acid reflux. You are also advised to quit smoking and prevent intake of citrus fruits and alcohol.
