Acid Reflux and it causes and remedies

What is acid reflux? If you know it, you may find this question quite an obsolete and ridiculous one. However, it may, certainly, draw the attention of the people suffering from it. Acid reflux occurs when the stomach acid backs up to the esophagus and even up to the throat. This happens when the lower esophageal sphincter fails to prevent the access from splashing and going up. It then triggers pain in the chest or stomach. Also, you will feel the bitter or sour taste at the back of your tongue. Many people are unfamiliar with what is acid reflux and hence fail to treat it. You should not worry if you suffer from it once in a week or occasionally. However, if should take due care if it occurs more than twice a week.

Apart from the chest pain and bitter taste at the back of your tongue, the dry cough, sore throat, wheezing, coughing, bloody stool, burping, and bloating etc also indicate the possibility of acid reflux. Oftentimes, the people fail to undergo the treatment as they fail to identify the symptoms.
In some cases, it is the faulty LES that is responsible for acid reflux. However, pregnancy and certain medical conditions like diabetes also cause acid reflux. Moreover, there are several food items like citrus fruits, spicy and fatty foods, and chocolates etc that cause acid reflux. Also, if you desire to avoid acid reflux, it is not sufficient to have mere knowledge of what is acid reflux. You should keep such foods out of your daily diet.

Though the medicines for GERD are easily available in the drugstores, many people love to treat using home remedies. The alkaline fruits, lemon and aloe vera juice, baking soda, and almonds etc help in controlling the stomach acid formation and you can use them as the remedies. It is not all difficult to get rid of GERD, but it would be possible only if you know what is GERD and start implementing the remedies.
