GERD or Gastroesophageal reflux has become very common nowadays due to which, the LES muscle that forms the main opening between the stomach and esophagus, suffers from faulty functioning. This leads to improper back-flowing or esophageal refluxes causing undesirable situations such as acidity, chest pain, irritations inside the lining of esophagus causing burning sensation and various other ill secretions that may harm the gastric health of the concerned person. This is a food based syndrome and therefore, in order to control or rather check the symptoms of GERD, it is important to know what foods to avoid for acid reflux.
 
Food factors affecting GERD disease: It is crucial to have a detailed idea about which foods to avoid so that one can be free from the sickening symptoms of the GERD disease. The main foods that cause acid reflux are:
  • Spicy foods are strict no-no because any kind of spices such as pepper, etc. in the curries or other items can trigger acid refluxes to the maximum possible extent.
  • Citrus fruits such as oranges, lemons, etc. are also not healthy and can cause GERD refluxes because of their acidic nature. These are mostly harmful when consumed in empty stomach.

  • Other food items that can accelerate GERD disease are cheese, nuts, peppermint and avocadoes because all these items are acidic in nature.
  • Any alcohol is detrimental such as beer, wine or other cocktails. Therefore, one must abstain from alcohol to prevent from being affected with GERD symptoms.
