GERD And Acid Reflux Can Be Controlled With The Right Diet Plan

There are some foods which directly, and indirectly increases the chance of acid reflux, and are thus not to be included in your diet plan if you are suffering from GERD. In fact the whole episode of which food to include, and which not, is quite experimental. You need to note down the body’s reactions to certain food types, and see if that suits or not. Yet, as per surveys of GERD and common acid reflux patients, some food are categorized to be triggers, and you must know what foods to avoid for acid reflux.
Foods that you should avoid
  • Avoid food that contains too much of fat. Fried and deep fried food which absorbs fat should be avoided. Examples are French fries, bacon and ham fries, onion rings, etc.
  • Avoid food that contains dairy products, specially the ones which contains full fat milk.
  • Desserts containing high fat, like ice creams, porridges etc should be avoided.
  • Fries and chips which are all fast foods should wholly be avoided.
  • Saucy food, creamy items, gravies etc should be avoided which contain a lot of sour and fat.
  • Citrus fruits should be avoided by GERD patients.
  • Tomatoes are good otherwise, but not when you have acid reflux problem.
Besides spicy foods, garlic and onion in plenty, and then chocolates are some of the trigger foods which causes GERD to aggravate and triggers acid reflux.
GERD causes
GERD is caused by mainly two reasons. One can be a type of hernia, where the stomach raises above and enters the chest section through a weak point in the diaphragm. And the other cause is more common where the LES sphincter muscle, which guards the opening of the lower esophagus, does work properly for many reasons. For both GERD disease causes, the first things to do are plan the Reflux Diet, and then make body comfortable. Next if a surgery is needed in serious cases it can be done or medication can be started.
