What Causes Esophagus Cancer

Both men and women suffer from Esophagus cancer due to obesity, intake of alcohol and the use of tobacco. The abnormal growth of cells in your body causes cancer. The Esophagus lies in front of your spine and behind the windpipe. The food from your mouth moves through the Esophagus to the stomach. Cancer usually starts in the inner layer and grow outward.

The Esophagus cancer is classified into two categories namely Squamous Cell carcinoma, and Adenocarcinoma.

Other types of rare cancer that starts in the Esophagus include melanomas, lymphomas, and sarcomas.

It is advised to quit smoking and also prevent intake of alcohol to stop the development of cancer in the Esophagus. This cancer is likely in adults aged above 55 years. However, 15% of men aged below 55 years are likely to develop Esophagus cancer.

The first symptom of cancer in Esophagus is the difficulty in swallowing solid foods. As the days progress, you may also find difficulty in swallowing liquids. You may also experience indigestion, and heartburn due to gastrointestinal disease. You may also experience a sudden loss of weight.
Other noticeable symptoms include tarry or black stools, vomiting of blood, microscopic bleeding, reduced red blood cell count that causes weakness, pain in the chest or back or in the neck.  The vocal card damage may also cause voice hoarseness.  It is suggested to choose timely treatment for the Esophagus cancer.
